In 2011 we founded the Primal Martial Arts Academy, also known as the Chinese Boxing Institute, where we continue the original intention of martial arts training as a life performance system while focusing on the ‘truth’ in combat by keeping our training functional and up-to-date.
Our goal is to provide you, the student, the opportunity to challenge yourself and strengthen your mind, body and spirit; while at the same time learning highly effective techniques that can be used to successfully defend yourself and your loved ones.
What makes the training at Primal Academy unique in the modern martial arts world of MMA and tough guy attitudes is that we have a Zero Meat-Head policy. We are committed to an ego-free, non hyper-competitive environment.
Most martial art programs have narrow focus that rely either on self-defense training or competitive success. Instead, Primal Academy’s program focuses on a holistic approach to martial arts learning and self-defense.
Steven is the co-owner and the primary instructor at the Primal Martial Arts Academy; and teaches the Chinese Boxing, Chinatown JKD and the Kempo Karate curriculum.
He is a direct student of Sifu Tim Tackett and Sifu Jeremy Lynch, and has received instructor rank under Sifu Bremer, Sifu Tackett, Sifu Sewell and the JKD Wednesday Night Group; as well as the Chinatown JKD Association.
Steven is a certified instructor in Chinese Kempo Karate (Kara-Ho Kempo) under Master Sam Estrada and the Kwai Sun Society, and is also one of the chief instructors of the Kwai Sun Society.
Steven has also received black belt or instructor grade ranking in: Kyokushinkai Karate, JKD Concepts, American Kenpo Karate, Japanese Jujutsu and Japanese stick fighting (Jodo).
He continues to train in Jeet Kune Do under the direction of Sifu Tackett and Sifu Lynch. He also actively studies Grappling, Weaponry (Filipino Martial Arts), and Kempo Karate.
Jeremy Lynch started his martial arts training at the age of seven studying traditional Karate. At the age of 13 he began training at one of Jhoon Rhee's schools learning Tae Kwon Do.
After six years of Tae Kwon Do he was fortunate to be accepted into Tim Tackett's personal Training Group. There he trained directly under Tim Tackett, Bob Bremer (The Asskicker of Chinatown), Bert Poe, and Dennis Blue.
Sifu Lynch is a Senior Full Instructor under the famous JKD Wednesday Night Group as well as the head instructor of the Chinatown JKD Association.
He serves as an advisor to both Steven Resell and Mike Blesch, while teaching workshops on Jeet Kune Do in addition to the private and semi-private training sessions he holds bi-weekly in Yucaipa, California.
Jeremy has been a part of the Jeet Kune Do scene for over twenty years now. He has fought in the kickboxing ring and has worked with many of the original Bruce Lee students.
Mike is the co-owner of Primal Academy and has trained privately with Sifu Jeremy Lynch in the art of Jeet Kune Do since 2003. In 2005, Sifu Lynch brought him to Tim Tackett's famous "JKD Wednesday Night Group", where he met Bruce Lee students Bob Bremer & Jim Sewell. He was lucky enough to have the opportunity to pick their brains for the next two years until Sifu Bremer's physical condition prevented him from attending the Wednesday Night Group on a regular basis.
Mike considers Sifu Jeremy Lynch his greatest influence in the martial arts, while crediting Sifu Tackett with providing a greater understanding of the principles of Jeet Kune Do. He is an instructor under Tim Tackett, Bob Bremer, & Jim Sewell (JKD Wednesday Night Group) as well as Jeremy Lynch and the Chinatown JKD Association. He continues to seek guidance from Sifu Tackett, Sifu Lynch and Sifu Dennis Blue (Combat In-Sight).
Mike teaches mostly private lessons in Chinatown JKD, Combatives, and assists in various workshops and seminars. He has also authored several articles on Jeet Kune Do which can be found at www.jkdwednite.com.
Sifu Blue has more than 30 years of training and teaching with the JKD Wednesday Night Group under Tim Tackett, Jim Sewell and Bob Bremer (the latter two are original students of Bruce Lee).
He has also studied with Pete Jacobs and Guro Dan Inosanto and has extensive knowledge of not only Jeet Kune Do, but also South East Asian martial arts such as Filipino Martial Arts, Silat and Muay Thai.
Sifu Dennis has taught at numerous seminars around the world with Sifu Tackett’s Wednesday Night Group; the former and the new Bruce Lee Foundation; as well as other seminars in the US and Europe.
Sifu Dennis holds a Senior Advisory position with the Chinatown JKD Association.
All advanced firearms & CQC training is conducted by Dennis Blue. He is available for one-on-one instruction in a classroom environment, group instruction at the range, and seminars around the world.
From Sifu Tim Tackett, renowned author and instructor of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do:
It is not often that the Wednesday Night Group makes an instructor, and it is even rarer that we have someone open a branch school. Mike Blesch and Steven Resell are two of our students that we thought so much of that we not only made them instructors but told them to open a satellite school.
Both Mike and Steven have personally trained at my garage and Jeremy Lynch’s home. They are very knowledgeable and are great teachers. They have both assisted me on seminars and have helped me teach in my garage class. If you are interested in Jeet Kune Do then they are a great choice.
